Remember that scene in that movie where a couple has an intimate date, and you know it’s going well? Or the scene where the best friends meet after work, sit by the large window and catch up over a wine glass? Or how about surprise birthday as the main character walks to the counter, their friend’s drinks and cocktails already at hand? Well Flora’s Wine Bar provides the setting for it all.

In our recent episode of Boozy Bostonians, we tried six different wines and cocktails. Don’t be fooled by our limitations though! Flora’s offer an ever-changing cocktail specials while still serving the ever-loved Taco Tuesdays and craft beers are nothing to forget.
The Drinks
Check out the beverages we tried. If you want to hear our numerical ratings as well as more details for each drink and food, click here to listen to the episode.
LL Cool G

Lavender infused Greylock gin, fresh lemon, lemon sugar rim, splash of elderflower, and prosecco float.
Cost: $14
Taste: Light, fresh, sweet. Sip it to enjoy the lavender tones.
Special Note: They use a house-made lavender infused gin. So fresh, our bartender almost chocked on the lavender when she tried it. Don’t worry, they strain the gin before serving
2019 Satellite Sauvignon Blanc, Spy Valley, Marlbourough, NZ

Don't mind the partially empty glass. I couldn't help myself.
Cost: $14 a glass, $54 a bottle.
Taste: Light, dry, quite fruity.
Special Note: This wine won Pure Gold in 2010 from the now named New Zealand Wind of the Year Awards and won Silver in the International Wine Challenge in 2018.
Violet Beauregarde

Blueberry Margarita with a salt and sugar coating.
Cost: $15
Taste: Tart as it should be with a hint of floral notes.
Special Note: This one came with both black salt and sugar coating for the extra visual effect. Unfortunately, we can’t locate it on the menu anymore and this might have been one of the specials. Keep an eye out!
2019 Merlot, Duckhorn Vineyards, St. Helena, Napa Valley

Whew! I really couldn't help myself with this one. I liked it too much before I remembered to swipe a photo.
Cost: $20 a glass, $76 a bottle
Taste: Cherry, black currant, rich and nice finish.
Tea Overboard

Tea Overboard on the left and the Jeio Prosecco Rose on the right.
House infused black tea vodka, elderflower, lemon juice, off dry vermouth.
Cost: $13
Taste: A tasty Arnold Palmer. The tea taste is more pronounced though the hint of elderflower is still there.
2019 Jeio Prosecco Rose, Domaine de L’Estoile, Veneto, Italy
Cost: $14 a glass, $54 a bottle
Taste: Citrusy, grapefruit, sweet.
The Food
Picky foods galore. Shareable foods are available but if you want to keep something all to yourself, we don’t blame you!
Chef’s Board Cheese & Charcuterie

Cost: $25 per Guest
The Chef’s Board hit the spot once we got into our first drinks of the night. The above picture is the board for 2 guests, and we left it up to the kitchen on what to choose. However, preferences are encouraged, and you can always order a la carte instead! This is a definite classic recommend!
Country Pate

Pate, crostini, pickles, and mustard seed spread.
Cost: $14
Save those crostini from the charcuterie as you’ll need it for the loads of pate. This is a little more niche and unfortunately, it’s yet another item that we can’t find on the current menu right now.
The Verdict
We loved Flora’s and wish we went with a bigger stomach for both the alcohol and food. The menu is extensive in the right places, and it was just too cozy, too fun, and the staff was just so friendly for us not to do a repeat visit in the future.
What’s the catch then? Well, it’s only street parking so make sure to take that into consideration but since it’s in West Newton parking is easier than Southie or Newbury St. When we say cozy, we mean it, as it seats only about 22 people total inside and it has only one restroom. This is no problem for us but if you like a bigger space, this is not for you. Despite these minor flaws, Flora's is the perfect hole in the wall bar for your next night out.
